About Highlands School

A Higher Degree of Learning

Highlands School is an independent private school serving infants through 8th grade. The School was founded in 1958 by educator, civic leader, and philanthropist, Evalina Brown Spencer. Our school’s culture embraces the living principle that children learn and grow best in a supportive, close-knit community, where each student is inspired and motivated by a successful and meaningful early education experience.

Highlands School is an independent school distinguished by our diverse community and a commitment to academic excellence, creative expression, and leadership development. We prepare and motivate students to thrive and make positive differences in a constantly-changing, global world. For several years, Highlands has been honored as one of the 50 Best Private Elementary Schools in the country.

Our Mission

Highlands School’s Mission is to provide an academically challenging program, to create a love of learning in every student, to instill the habits of success in every student, and to prepare the student to be a responsible and productive member of the community.

Kavita Vasil, Head of School

Welcome to the Highlands School community. At Highlands, academics are celebrated, imagination is embraced, and leadership is fostered. This defines Highlands School’s philosophy of a Higher Degree of Learning. Our faculty and administration strive to promote in each child a positive self-image and respect for one another, as well as a lifelong love for learning in a challenging and caring environment where students have the opportunity to grow, succeed, and achieve every day.
