Grades 4K – 3

While the curriculum is rigorous, the academic atmosphere at Highlands School is caring, supportive, and developmentally stimulating – children have daily opportunities to grow, succeed, and achieve during these formative years. Experience in the earliest years of school is critical for excellence in the years to come. In grades 4K – 3rd, students learn in self-contained classrooms which focus on the whole child, furthering development in all areas of growth: physical, social, emotional, creative, and intellectual. Early literacy is a priority at Highlands, as is laying a strong foundation for mathematical concepts and skills. Students internalize basic skills by practicing them in meaningful ways. With parents, teachers, and administrators working in partnership to provide encouragement and set high expectations, the path is paved for a smooth transition from one grade level to another.
