The Festival of Art and Culture is back and better than ever! Join us on Thursday, April 17, from 4:30PM to 6:30PM. Join us for an unforgettable celebration at our Festival of Art and Culture! Our DJ is taking requests. We are excited to invite families to contribute to our collaborative playlist for the DJ, featuring fun music your family enjoys and songs from your home countries. Families from our school community are pitching in to provide Dumplings from Around the World - click the Dumpling Sign Up link if you would like to bring some of your family's favorite dumpling.
This vibrant event promises something for everyone, we'll have a lively marching band, dumpling making demonstrations, a Bollywood dance clinic and performance, and an interactive world map mural where your family can proudly mark your country or state of origin. As you arrive you'll have the opportunity to participate in a dynamic drum circle. And save time to admire the incredible art show featuring the talents of our students from all grade levels. Let's come together to celebrate our diverse community and create lasting memories!
The Festival of Art and Culture is an annual event at Highlands that evolved from our previous Country of Study Program. It is a means to further facilitate organic, authentic, thoughtful, and deeper integration of global studies into the curriculum. This approach provides the opportunity to include varying cultures and perspectives of our own Highlands community members. The Festival of Art and Culture allows global studies to interweave with and connect to social-emotional learning and art. Art is a mirror and window into who we are individually and collectively (culture), and the student learning on display will be demonstrated through either visual art or language art. Every student, from Family Center through 8th grade, has art to display during the event.
