I hail from Mississippi, home of Mississippi State University! Go Bulldogs and hail state! I graduated from Mississippi State with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. There I participated in social and cognitive research and became a part of the Psi Chi Honors Program and an Entergy Scholarship recipient. I remained in Mississippi after graduation where I worked until I made a move to Arizona. There, I continued working, discovered new surroundings, and met amazing people along the way. Eventually, I moved back to my home state where I made the decision that landed me here in Alabama! Alabama is where my journey to working with children truly began. I realized this through working with various families, McWane Science Center with events and partnering with the education department, as an afterschool counselor for Highlands, and more recently as a pre-K teacher.
In my spare time, I enjoy a multitude of things including painting, writing, traveling, spending time with friends, house projects, volunteering for food distribution for communities, visiting museums, live music, learning about beekeeping, and reading. My family still lives in my home state, and I visit as often as possible! I have two dogs - a lab/pit mix named Jak, who is on constant security duty by the front living room window, and a Pembroke Welsh corgi named Tali, who likes to think she is the Queen of England’s dog. They are the loves of my life!
I worked for Highlands for afterschool about two years ago and I am so excited to become a part of the community again. I chose Highlands because I believe in the mission of Highlands. The diversity and inclusivity that is a part of the culture is a testament to why I wanted to return. The faculty/staff is wonderful in that they are so welcoming and the atmosphere here is uplifting and positive. I am beyond thankful to be a part of something great!
