Highlands Sociedad Hispánica de Amistad

Bree Holland
The Highlands School middle school chapter of the Sociedad Hispánica de Amistad (SHA), the Capítulo Antoni Gaudí, has been working hard this year. The Capítulo Antoni Gaudí has held several meetings, and all seventeen of the members are very enthusiastic about the year! The students elected officers for President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
President- Whitney Byington
Vice-President- Sela Komisar
Secretary- Katherine Effinger
Treasurer- Joseph Katz
After voting for officers, the members began working on service projects. Each year, the SHA hopes to complete at least three service activities—one for ambassadorship, one for service to school, and one for service to community. So far this year, the students have worked on two service projects. First, they helped make tissue paper flowers to donate to the Bare Hands Gallery’s Día de los Muertos Festival, which is November 2nd.  This is an important annual community event related to Hispanic culture, and the SHA was excited to help! The students also helped at Highland School’s Fall Festival by hosting a booth giving out temporary sugar skull tattoos. The SHA members have lots of great ideas and are looking forward to many more service opportunities throughout the year!
