Parents

Parents' Auxiliary

Dear Highlands Parents,

There is no better time to be a kid than summer!  Shoes (and sometimes clothes) are optional, schedules are loose, and playtime is … all the time.  I find myself becoming more and more attached to summer as my kids get older - you literally find yourself thinking how glorious the lightning bugs are not only for their luminary splendor, but for their memory making in your child’s cupped hands.  If I could pass on any advice as a seasoned mom to a new mom, I’d say play with your kids all summer long.  You both need it!  Summer is all the more sweet because of how fleeting it is.  So it is with heavy heart that I remind you that school is just a few short weeks away.

That being said, I have watched my children arrive at Highlands School year after year for the last 12 years with the lightness of heart that only a parent who trusts and values their child’s potential for learning and growth can have.  As much as I love summer, I also love Highlands School.  Highlands may require shoes (and clothes) but the summertime spirit of exploration and play carries forward into the year of learning ahead.  There really is no better place to be a kid than Highlands School!

What makes Highlands School such a special place for the kids and us adults is our community. You are an important part of that community as a parent, and you automatically belong to the Highlands School Parents’ Auxiliary (PA).  We in the PA are committed to upholding the mission of the school as well as supporting the vision and success of our faculty and staff.  As part of that community, the PA plans and orchestrates several fun-filled events that are long standing traditions at Highlands School. Just as I encouraged you to play with your kids this summer, I encourage you to be involved with one of these PA sponsored events.  Being on campus and sharing in your child’s enjoyment of the Highlands’ experience will bring you that same feeling of luminary splendor - the memories are captured gloriously in front of you.  And why should your kid be the only one having fun?!?!  Sign up to be a part of your child’s memories and witness it all firsthand.

There’s a lot happening at Highlands this year, including the fabulous construction of a brand new student center. I am looking forward to watching that progress and all the opportunities for our kids that the future Highlands campus holds.  It’s a great time to reflect on what’s most important to us all - the Highland’s community with 60 more years to...  I look forward to seeing everyone back on campus in about a month! If you are new to Highlands (or even if you’re not), please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions about the PA. Until then, enjoy these remaining summer days and nights, and play, play, play!

All my best,
