2018 Auction Recap

Nancy Riley
On Friday, March 16, 2018 Highlands School hosted a 60th Birthday Party auction at The Florentine for parents, alumni and friends of the school. The event was the kick-off celebration for the school’s upcoming 60th birthday and announced the public phase of the school’s 60 more years to… capital campaign. Founded in 1958, Highlands School will celebrate its birthday with different events throughout the year.

This year’s auction was co-chaired by Amy Neiman and Elene Giattina. Both women worked tirelessly to execute this event and their hard work showed! A big thank you to both Amy and Elene for their time and effort.

The auction was held at The Florentine with catering provided by Corretti Catering. Ken and Rebecca Effinger were exceedingly generous with their talents and we cannot thank them enough.

Roughly 300 guests were greeted downstairs in the Café with a variety of party games. Guests could test their luck in a blind wine pull or a grab bag station. Prizes included parking spaces for Highlands events, cookbooks and even a night at the Grand Bohemian! Both games were made possible by donations from many Highlands friends and families.

Auction guests participated in a silent auction for experience packages provided by Highlands faculty and staff in the days leading up to the live auction that took place in the Florentine ballroom.  The Live Auction featured vacation homes, the chance to be Head of School for the Day and the four illustrious Hogwarts houses. Will and Reed Lochamy, local radio personalities, emceed the auction and won the crowd over with their wit and casual charm. As always, the four Hogwarts houses stole the show netting over $25,000.
Overall, the auction raised over $150,000 with funds going to furniture and fixtures in the new Student Life Center, the focal point of the 60 the More Years to… campaign. Nancy Riley, director of development, said “The success of this auction is a direct result of the generosity of everyone involved. I would especially like to thank the members of the faculty and staff who gave their time. They are amazing!”
